My designs are guided by the existing shapes and material of the reusable pieces of a sneaker. For this project, I have broadened my research into the shaping and reshaping of soles. Shoe soles are the only part that separates the wearer from the surface underneath. We walk, run and dance. For this reason, the sole has to be able to resist a lot of pressure. The sneaker sole in particular is known for its short life span. With my designs I aim to explore ways to extend the sneakers wearability. For the past few years, I have developed an obsession with one particular part of a sole, namely Nike’s air bubble. I have researched different methods on how to incorporate the old bubble in new soles, but also experimented with injecting various materials into deflated bubbles.
